About Us

Sovereign Energy is a Native-Owned entity, partnering with a seasoned team of solar experts. Jointly we work with Tribal Leaders to empower their communities to achieve energy sovereignty and financial security through accessible residential solar solutions, maximizing the benefits of solar incentives available through the Inflation Reduction Act, the Solar For All program and other available incentive programs.

What We Do For Tribal Leaders
Reduce Tribal Members’ Monthly Electrical Costs, Keep Utility Monies within Native communities, Help Your Community Work Towards Energy Sovereignty.
Tribal Leaders are in a position to positively impact the lives of their Tribal Members. As Tribal entities have control of their own electrical generation systems, monthly electrical costs charged to tribal members can be reduced, and much of the utility payments that previously were paid to utility companies can be captured by the Tribal owners. This model benefits tribal members directly by:
1. Reducing electrical costs and providing employment opportunities for some members;
2. Financially strengthening tribes by introducing another source of ongoing revenue; and
3. Reducing reliance on outside utility companies
This is considered the trifecta of sovereign energy goals among Native Nations.

What We Do For Tribal Residents
Eliminate Solar Installation Costs, Reduce Monthly Electrical Bills, and in some cases Provide Roofing Upgrades.
Sovereign Energy offers a comprehensive tribal residential solar program specifically designed for tribal communities, leveraging IRA solar tax credits and other funding resources. In doing so:
- Tribal member resident’s out-of-pocket cost of installing residential solar will be eliminated
- Their monthly utility bill payments will be reduced
- In some instances all or part of the cost of roofing improvements necessary to support solar equipment may be able to be included in installation costs
- Where battery backup systems are included as part of the installation, resident’s will enjoy greater energy reliability in times of electrical outage
- Lastly, all or most of a resident’s utility payments can now remain within the Native community

What We Do For Tribal Lands

Native Americans are especially vulnerable to negative impacts on their cultures, health, and food systems. Sovereign Energy strives to encourage environmental sustainability through our mission, work, and organizational values. As a Native entity we understand that Indigenous peoples have a long tradition of living sustainably with the natural world by understanding the importance of preserving natural resources and respecting the interdependence of all living things.
Sovereign Energy embraces this tradition through our work and by instituting sustainable office and production practices that reduce our negative impact on the climate and environment.
Sustainability Promise
Our Goal at Sovereign Energy is to provide for a more sustainable lifestyle for our Native communities. This includes both environmental AND financial sustainability. Among other things, our efforts are intended to address the following challenges:
- Many tribal households lack access to affordable clean energy options despite abundant solar potential on tribal lands.
- The cost of residential electrical power for homes on reservations can be as much as 40% higher than for homes off the reservation.
- Almost a million Native Americans living on Tribal Lands are underserved when it comes to the cost and availability of residential electricity.
- Of those, over 87% are located in solar optimal sun-hour zones.
- Even “normal” residential energy options can be unreliable in times of catastrophe. Reservations tend to be remote, much more subject to power outages from storms, floods, fires and other natural catastrophes.
- When problems DO arise, reservations are frequently the last to be brought back online – often waiting WEEKS, not days.
Sovereign Energy introduces access to funding and processes to install sustainable solar for homes on Tribal lands quickly and economically to help resolve these challenges.
